As Vice President of Acquisitions, Kunal Chothani focuses on affordable acquisitions as well as identifying land for new affordable development opportunities.
Mr. Chothani came to Michaels in 2021 to help actively look to acquire existing affordable and workforce properties, portfolios, and platforms. His addition to the team allowed Michaels to expand its efforts to acquire existing affordable assets as well identifying land and reuse opportunities that can be converted to affordable housing.
Prior to joining Michaels, Mr. Chothani worked at Stonehenge Partners, a NewYork City focused institutional multifamily operator. At Stonehenge, Mr. Chothani was responsible for sourcing multifamily properties, portfolios, platforms, limited partners, and debt capital sources. He also managed the underwriting, due diligence, and financing of these transactions.
Before Stonehenge, Mr. Chothani was Head of New York at Akelius Residential AB, an international multifamily owner and private foundation head quartered in Stockholm. During his four-year tenure at Akelius, Mr. Chothani acquired and managed 27 apartment buildings valued at more than $1billion. His experience also includes acquisition and asset management of project-based section 8, LIHTC, and conventional multifamily properties nationally.
Mr. Chothani attended Rutgers University where he majored in Political Science and minored in Economics.
